GNG In The Community

Working together, serving together

Our commitment to the community is as strong as our commitment to our customers. GNG's award-winning TrueBlue Crew Employee Volunteer Program, for example, is focused on improving the lives of children and seniors from all areas of our state. Our volunteers are the reason GNG was awarded the 2008 and 2009 Category II Torch Award for Community Service from the Better Business Bureau Serving Metro Atlanta, Athens and Northeast Georgia.

TrueBlue™ Schools Program – When Kids Win, We All Win!

Georgia Natural Gas has introduced the TrueBlue Schools™ Program. It's a simple fundraising solution that lets parents, teachers, alumni and members of the local community support local area schools — just by using natural gas. The financial benefit of the TrueBlue Schools™ Program can have a significant impact on schools in the local area. When an existing or new Georgia Natural Gas customer joins the program, GNG will provide ongoing donations to the member's school of choice. For every customer that signs up, GNG will:

  • Give their school a one-time $40 donation per customer
  • Donate $5 for each month the program participant is an active GNG customer in good standing - up to $60 per year per participant.

For complete terms and conditions, visit trueblueschools.com. We all want to see kids succeed. Let's make it happen together.

Better Schools. Healthier Families. Stronger Communities

Georgia's children are our state's most precious assets. That's why Georgia Natural Gas employees decided to make children and education focal points of our employee volunteer and corporate giving programs. We also help senior citizens who live in our service areas.

Teaching What We Know

GNG employees take time out of their busy schedules regularly to tutor students and provide educational support to public schools. And our volunteers often spend their weekends supporting projects that benefit children.

Broadening Horizons

Learning can happen in all kinds of places. That's why GNG consistently sponsors activities and programs in museums, nature centers and zoos, as well as other special exhibits.

Centennial Place Elementary School

Students at Centennial Place Elementary School learn from GNG volunteer tutors and then enjoy an end-of-the-year party with GNG volunteers. GNG sponsors after-school care at the adjacent Centennial Place Family YMCA.

Prevent Child Abuse Georgia

Every year, GNG employees collect thousands of dollars worth of clothes, toys, and gift cards for at-risk families and children served by PCA Georgia's programs.

Seniors

"When Georgia Natural Gas volunteers visit Lutheran Towers, it brings a smile to the faces of the residents. We appreciate their employees taking the time out of their work day to serve a meal, or pay a visit." - Betsy Caldwell, Lutheran Towers

Helping Neighbors
At places like Lutheran Towers in Atlanta, our employees can be found serving holiday meals to the seniors who live there or stopping by for a visit with residents. In Savannah, each year we collect hundreds of blankets to be distributed through Senior Citizens, Inc.

Honor. Dignity. Quality of Life.
As a large and growing segment of Georgia's population, seniors contribute immensely to our community. But they often face challenges, both physically and financially. We're here to help. Which is why serving senior-focused institutions has been one of the cornerstones of our volunteer and corporate giving programs.

Spreading the Word
Every year we visit town hall meetings and senior centers throughout Georgia to educate seniors about energy issues and energy assistance programs targeted to them.

Reducing costs. Improving lives.

A large part of our community support involves energy assistance. In 2006 Georgia Natural Gas donated $1.1 million to help low-income senior citizens weatherize their homes, and to educate consumers about energy conservation. More than 300 homes were weatherized, thanks to the funds provided by GNG and the following organizations that coordinate the programs: Southeast Energy Assistance, Inc., Partnership for Community Action, Clayton County Community Services Authority, Inc. Resource Service Ministries, Inc., and H.E.A.T. (Heating Energy Assistance Team).

Because of those efforts, GNG received the 2007 Business & Aging Partnership Award - Atlanta Regional Commission Help Award - Partnership for Community Action, DeKalb County, Georgia.

"Georgia Natural Gas received the top honor for its efforts to help low-income older adults reduce their heating costs. In addition to donating $1.1 million to help Atlanta-area low-income seniors weatherize their homes and educate consumers statewide about energy conservation, the company partnered with numerous community organizations to detect inefficiencies in homes, thus attacking the root cause of high heating bills - inefficiency. This ultimately conserves energy and eliminates the need to raise thermostats."
-- Atlanta Regional Commission
